Product Review: Hostess Meltamors Snack Cakes

A few weeks ago, Influenster sent me some Hostess goodies to try for a campaign. I was cute and kind about it on Instagram and the in-app reviews. In reality, both snack cakes were very much a two-star event. So, before I delete all the pictures from my Google Photos, allow me to quickly review.

Hostess Meltamors: Double Chocolate

I'd be a big ol' rotund liar if I said I hated these. While I wasn't fond of the odd taste (cardboard-like? Carpet taste?) that seems to linger on all modern-day Hostess and Little Debbie confections, I can give points to moisture, sponginess, and heated flavor. Yeah, heated (as suggested) makes them all right. I had some with a scoop of ice cream. Alone, ehhhh....not so much. Not so much at all.

Overall, they aren't bad. These snack cakes just aren't something I see myself actively purchasing again. The lingering taste is what turned me off. However, in a sweet-seeking pinch, this double-chocolate mini snack isn't so bad.

Hostess Meltamors: Creamy Caramel

The theme: indifference. Don't promise me caramel and give me more chocolate. The experience is supposed to be creamy, warm caramel. What I got was more chocolate. Yes, "real cocoa"! I saw it on the boxes. Impressive. Marginally tasty. Again, strange and bland taste. That taste lingers on my tongue and ruins most of my old-school favorites. Maybe I'm just an old fart at 39? Dude. Anyway, the promise of caramel was overshadowed by the chocolate experience. I tasted hints of caramel-- hot or cold. The rest are currently on the kitchen counter, waiting for some hungry and unexpecting family member to taste outta curiosity.

I gave these snacks a chance despite my from-the-jump feelings about Hostess products. While I was a little let down, the taste test wasn't all that bad. There was still a hint of sugar-frosted mirth heating up a chocolaty snack. I still felt a hint of glee and giddy feelings plopping a scoop of vanilla over the warm little snack cakes. For all my complaints, they actually are much better hot. If you don't overthink the experience, they aren't all that bad.
