Before I run off to the wild, wild South, I thought part two of my blog about staples in the plus-size wardrobe should get done. Besides, once I get home I'm sure that I'll be too tired to do anything but upload my pictures from the trip. So let's get into Torrid! For me, Torrid is a treat. It's like a Lane Bryant for the younger generation. Sadly, Torrid sizes tend to run a bit smaller and they've resorted to the vanity size method. I know I'm a 26/28, and sometimes their stuff fits like a 22/24 or a really snug 26. I also don't care for their sizing charts with the 1 through 5 situation. This actually confused me and upset me for a minute the first time I saw it. I kept asking myself "why are they putting skinny girl clothes all over this site? I don't feel welcome!" But then again, I WAS shopping at 4 in the morning online. A check of the size chart later, and I came to find that things were still the same. In any case, Torrid is also great for seasonal staples. Although they're a bit more pricier than Old Navy, it's possible to get some great things on sale, on discount, or as a splurge treat. For this blog, we'll be focusing on things on sale and on clearance. Specifically those tops every woman needs in her closet. Is it possible to scrape the bargains at Torrid? Don't let the price tags fool you. Sometimes a great deal is in the works.
First and foremost, do not fear the clearance. Do not fear the sale. These are the things that are going to be kind to your wallet and that credit card. These are the things that will fill your closet up. I don't care if you're on Park Avenue, the Gold Coast of Chicago, or on Skid Row USA--everyone can benefit from the marvel of a sale. This is something my grandmother and aunt taught me long ago. You may find great things in a sale. If you can find it in your size and it's a great fit, go for it! Sometimes the things that aren't the majority's cup of tea might be right up your alley. So, always check your
sales, always check your
clearance. Before you buy, always, always check your
size chart.

Burnout Cardigan |
In the clearance department, there can be a lot of solids and prints you can use as accessories to your wardrobe. Especially if the season in question is up. For example, this
Black Lace Burnout Cardigan. Obviously out of season for the warmer months, you can be prepared for next Fall and Winter in style. You can mix this gorgeous black lace with a white tank (like the model), or add a splash of color like a rich purple or a ravishing pink or red. Any shirt with long or short sleeves could go with this cardigan. It's marked down from 34 bucks to about 24 and some change. Ranging in sizes 0 to 4 (sizes 12 to 28), it's a great deal. I think it's safe to say that this item is more than likely true to it's size. Cardigans and sweaters from Torrid usually have a lot of stretch in them.

Lace Illusion Halter Top |
Next we have a smoldering temptress kind of top with a sexy
Black Lace Illusion Halter Top. (Yes, I'm crazy about lace lol.) This is such a daring, lovely top! This is a great top for going out on the town. You can pair it up with a sleek, sexy skirt (knee or ankle length), or if you dare, slip on some shorts and hit the beach! It was $38.50, but is now a stunning 29.98. I don't think I'd want to cover up this sexy little number. Leave the shrug at home, if you please. ;-)

Embroidered Chiffon Top |
Available in only sizes 1 and 3 (*frown*frown*), we have a lovely, flowy kind of top known as the
Black and White Embroidered Chiffon Top. Slightly sheer, this sweet top can be complimented with a
basic black cami, or a
lacy tank. I'm cryin', though. I wish this were in my size! I'm not sure I want to take my chances with the size 3 shirt and then it doesn't fit. This is also something you have to take into account with the clearance section--it's buyer beware! There are no returns once you've bought it. For every bargain, there is a risk. For this shirt, I say take the risk! It's marked down from 38 bucks to $29.98.
Okay, okay, how about some colors? I know the guides for the Plus-Size woman want us behind those browns and blacks and such, but who says you have to follow those rules? The same goes for people who THINK we should "stay in our lane" because fat isn't sexy. Well, while they're all up and worried about your body, plus-size diva, you can concentrate on stepping up your wardrobe game to satisfy YOU. So then, on to some colors!

Hawaiian Romper |
|
Floral Zip Hoodie |
I'm a lover of hoodies, so this
Floral Zip Hoodie with the lovely bright flowers on it is a steal. It was once 38 bucks and is now a whopping 14. It comes in sizes 0 to 4, and is just so, so pretty. If you're like me--borderline feminine and tomboyish, this is the hoodie for you. Especially if you're on the run and just want to toss something on to be out for errands and such. Now, something a bit more season-appropriate! The
Turquoise Hawaiian Print Romper! Available in sizes 12 to 26, this is marked down from 58 to 20 dollars. This is an adorable romper with a breezy tropical feeling to it. If you're looking for something bright to wear at the beach social, look no further! I really like the details of the purple flowers on this outfit. Those really make it stand out.
As you can see, you really CAN get some bargains at plus-size stores where the tags might be a little bit higher. Sometimes you have to pick and choose between your quality or the quantity. However, you don't always have to splurge when you're searching for something new, or just the basics. In fact, you should look to save when you're going after those basics. Every dollar, every cent counts. So, the next time someone says you can't find a good deal at some of these expensive places, prove them wrong. Once you get the knack of racking up the savings, you'll come to find yourself with a closet full of great purchases. As a final tip, sign up your e mail with some of your favorite plus-size stores. Check to see if they're on Facebook and Twitter. These are sometimes where they advertise their special sales to anyone who's out there watching. ;-)
