Product Review: Cinnamon Bun Oreos

No I didn't get these for free via my usual freebie outlets. Sista had to shell out a couple bucks to taste the magic that is the Cinnamon Bun Oreo. Dang, Nabisco--you're trying to up the ante in the fatness department, aren't you? I'm 30. We can't keep playing these wicked sugar-frosted games. Or can we? I'm not Chris Isaak! (If you don't know who that is, shame on you. He's awesome.) This product review gets straight up schmaltzy, because these cookies are awesome.

It started with a shopping spree that was supposed to be healthful. I swear. I went in to get nuts, mango smoothie juice, and ONE bag of pretzels. So, eight aisles later, I roll up to the checkout line with these Cinnamon Bun Oreos. Yet another gullible consumer reeled in by the strangeness of Oreo's scheme to just throw things in cookies and sandwich creme. Ever since I was denied a Birthday Cake Oreo by a toddler who said I wasn't cool enough, I've been fascinated by Nabisco's arrangement of everything but the original chocolate and creme stuffed cookies.

So let's get right to the point. Taste, texture, feel, aftermath. Are they good, or are they due to be in the clearance bin with the Watermelon and Candy Corn Oreos? Before you drop to your knees and ask the cookie gods whyyyy they have decided to be so cruel, pour yourself a glass of milk/soy milk, and rejoice--Cinnamon Bun Oreos are awesome. They're different, but still awesome.

Different how? Let's start from the top--cookie parts speckled with cinnamon and spices. It has small hints of vanilla, but as a whole tastes like a genuine cinnamon roll. Think: the cheap ones from Walgreen's, or the super big ones you can get from vending machines and convenience stores. It's "different" because it's got the essence of a cookie, but that roll-y presence you expect when sinking your teeth into that famous dessert snack. It's different, because unlike other incarnations of Oreos that simply have different fillings and cookie parts, the entire thing comes together to create the cinnamon bun experience.

The first day I ate cookie one, I knew this small pack wouldn't last but a week. The creme filling has a super sugary, vanilla taste to it. It's also soft, and not weird and waxy, like cookie filling tends to be with certain brands. Typical filling taste, but the bag insists that it's cinnamon bun flavored. I'll take their word for it. By the end of the day, row one was gone. I tried my best to pace myself, and it all lasted for a good two weeks. After that, I was up at 4 AM laughing at Lucy and getting crumbs in the bed.

There really isn't that much to say about these cookies, except for the fact that they actually do taste like a cinnamon bun, and it's not a generic taste. It's rather enjoyable, and needs to come in a family pack ASAP. Dip them in your milk or milk-like substance of choice, wolf them down while you're watching that thing you like--these babies give you the full effect of the beloved bun with slightly less guilt about eating the whole thing.
