Sankofa Shea Haul Product Review

I'm so excited to be blogging about my haul from Sankofa Shea! I'm typing with a big ol' grin on my face as I put this blog together, because this is a business owned by a family member! I had the pleasure of purchasing some really awesome-smelling stuff this past week, and it's got my room smelling like an arrangement of sweet fruit, savory vanilla-almond, and enticing jasmine. I love sweet, floral scents, and I've been sniffing each product off and on all day. (Which makes me sound like an incredibly crazy person, but trust me--this stuff smells SO GOOD.)

What I purchased:

  • 1 4 ounce container of Shea Whip Vanilla Almond scent
  • 1 4 ounce container of Shea Whip Jasmine scent
  • 2 soy candles, both Midnight Pomegranate
  • 1 bar of Dudu-Osun Black Soap
I also got some really nice samples:
  • A sample pot of Pomegranate Shea Whip
  • A sample pot of Vanilla Almond
  • 1 Mango Papaya Soy candle
The package came just in time. After a disastrous hair day last week on Thursday, I was due for a re-twist. I decided to style with the Vanilla Almond Shea Whip. The smooth, light, and creamy texture of the Shea Whip was so delicate and soft! The sweet and savory scent--loved it! The mix of vanilla and almond is a perfect balance. It doesn't overwhelm the senses, and has a scent that lasts for quite a while in your hair. For me, it lasted for about four days. You don't need a lot to style your hair, and it doubles as a wonderful skin-nourishing moisturizer. Since I had a little excess on my hands from styling, I just rubbed it right in on my hands and elbows. It made my skin glow, and all those hard-to-reach dry corners were ash free. The Jasmine Shea Whip is just as lovely. The scent is a little strong, but has a very feminine and floral appeal that's perfect for a Summer-themed scent!

My hair came out great! Full coils, fluff for days. My twist-out stayed right in place until the end of the week! Not only did my hair look good, but it smelled great. The Vanilla Almond Shea Whip scent lingered in my hair and the product didn't dry out or leave me hanging. For extra moisture, I put a little bit in my hair before taking a shower every night.
Then, I tried the soy candles (which come from a company called Purescents-Essentials, but is sold on Sankofa Shea's site.). Since the candles can be melted into massage oil, I decided to try out my sample candle. I'm saving my Midnight Pom. for a self-care day. I took a whiff of it, and it's got a berry-scented, floral thing going on. I can't want to burn it and let the aroma fill the room. After the sample candle melted, I applied just a little of it. The adorably-sized candle took me on a warm and fuzzy tropical trip when I dipped my finger in. The massage oil is everything. The smell of the sample is so clean and refreshing! It glistens on the skin, and it just leaves you smelling like a delicious fruit drink. It's absolutely lovely, and I suggest stocking up on as many regular size candles (2 ounce, 4 ounce, 9 ounce) as you possibly can. Use them on yourself after a hard day, treat somebody to a spa day, or just kick back and dig the luscious-ness of these wonderful soy-based candles. (I highly suggest putting on some delightful quiet-time tracks by Prince from his N.E.W.S. album.) The room was immediately filled with the aroma of Mango Papaya, and the sample size was the size of a tea light candle.

Sankofa Shea has a great selection of products to purchase. I've got 'em bookmarked, because they have a lot of affordable essentials that're easy on the pockets. This is especially true for the hair and body Shea Whip--something us natural hair havin' women can never have enough of. You can also purchase small sample sizes if you're not sure about what scents you'd prefer for the Shea Whip. They're a dollar each, and you can also stick them in your purse or pocket when you're traveling!

I like that their Whips come in so many sizes. You have sample sizes to test them out, the 4 ounce sizes to use for your hair (a little of this wonderfulness goes a long way), and the 8 and 16 ounce sizes when you're ready to commit (or have a LOT of hair! ;) ). They also have lotion, lip balm, body oils (1/3 ounce and 1 ounce bottles), skin care oilssugar scrubs, and bath salts. It's a mouthful, but it's worth every single penny. You'll come out smelling like a beautiful garden with glowing, moisturized skin!

If you live in Chicago, you can arrange to pick up what you've ordered online, or visit the Culture Connection, which is located at 400 W. 71st Street. They sell the Sankofa Shea line right in the store. To stay connected with Sankofa Shea, visit their Facebook page, and get on their mailing list (via the main page, at the bottom) for future updates.
