After weeks and weeks of writer's block, lack of samples to try, and more schoolwork than I'd like; I finally have a moment to myself on this fine Saturday to post a blog entry. It's been a long time! I'm probably talking to myself here, but what the heck. I noticed that I had tons of pictures from a Thanksgiving dessert fiasco from...I dunno...like two years ago? It was the chocolate version of Rice Krispy Treats using Cocoa Pebbles. Sounds good, had peanut butter--tasted like CRAP.
It was my contribution to the wonderful dinner my aunt was preparing in TN for the family. That's tradition, period. If you're of age, you help with the cooking. So, after the success of my Snicker's Pie, I decided to try my luck with this recipe. The powerful failure was something that burns my amateur baking soul at night. (Right along with that brownie recipe, and the dang cookie press that made things....difficult.)
I don't think it was the recipe. I went wrong when I bought cheapo marshmallows and used frozen/thawed butter. There was a lot of lacking flavor and eye-widening bland-ness when I took that first bite. Not even my token "let it sit and have the air hit it" troubleshooter could save this dish. There was so much of it. Nobody ate it, except for my dear grandmother. I can only assume that it became bird and wildlife food. That's what I did with the half I took home, anyway.
I hate wasting materials, so the idea of something chocolaty and treat-like going to waste broke my little novice culinary heart. I've yet to retry the recipe, and I probably won't. If anyone out there has tried it, please let me know how it came out for you!
