Product Review: Clairol Professionals iThrive Hairspray

Gotta be honest--I don't use hairpsray. I don't know of many naturals who do. Haven't seen it as a part of their regimens, and I usually leave it out of my own. Since BzzAgent invited me to try a sample of Clairol's iThrive Weather Resistant Spray, I decided to give it a shot. What would be so different? The iThrive haircaire line is pretty awesome, with three main sections--Damage Repair, Color Preservation, and Style Taming--for regular hair regimens, and the Style Extender Line to keep your creations in check.

I found out right away--a hold on my hair that just wouldn't quit. Yes, it's a cornball line that should shame me right down to my wannabe blogger soul, but it's the truth. I have thick, frizzy, fly-away hair that has a mind of its own. It's coarse, it's coily, it's a kinky lady with twists and turns galore. Bless her heart, she's a force to be reckoned with. I wanted to see if this spray would hold her down. So, I put her to the test a couple weeks ago.

I pretty much just took down a regular old twist-out that I did the night before with water and Wet Hair Gel. I gently fluffled some of the twists, and then sprayed the hairspray. It felt sticky at first (don't ask why I put my hands in it, lol) but soon began to hold my hair down. She was stiff, she was perfect, she kept my style in place all day long from 9 AM to 4 that afternoon.

Quick tip: To get the basic hold, spray directly on your hair, let it dry. For flexibility, spray and scrunch or tousle.

In the days afterward, the spray STILL held my hair in place. It was finals week, and I wasn't about to be worrying about the odds and ends of beauty. I had two papers to write, and a Math final tapping at my brain. I still had homework and extra credit to boot. Lucky me--hat and scarves in place, my hair behaved until the 26th.

Would I use it again? Probably not regularly, but I would use it for special events, or days that are particularly windy or really hot. (The latter has yet to be tested, but I'm assuming this weather-resistant hair technology can be put to the test.) Again, this product really isn't a part of the routine for women of my hair type. However, somebody out there may find out it works for them! To find out which main line is for you, take the quiz at Sally Beauty's website.

Disclaimer: I am a BzzAgent. I was invited to try out a sample, for free in exchange for social media and blogging coverage. It's my job to tell you my experience, not pitch a sale! ;) I also have to use the hashtags #GotItFree and #FreeFromClairolProfessional.
