BzzAgent invited me to try out four samples of Special K's Indulgent snack bars. They're jam-packed fun-sized treats full of flavor, chew, and satisfaction. My samples--Coconut Dream, and savory Caramel Pretzel Bliss. 70 effin' calories, man. Yum yum.
Dig-- I love Special K cereal. So, their line of yummy cereal bars stay in rotation when I remember to "eat right". Special K has a LOT of great snack options, and have been on the happy dieter trail for a long time. I love that they're always coming up with something to help snackers keep in line. Their Indulgence bars are no different. I ate two and gave my dad two, knowing full well we have a different idea about what tastes good. Sure enough, we had a difference of opinion.
Dreamy Coconut
It tastes a little bit like a Girl Scout Samoas cookie. Not sure if the chocolate is dark or milk, but this bar wasn't half bad. It had rich hints of coconut, crunchy cereal, and a lovely drizzle of chocolate on top, and underneath. Delightfully cookie-like for those moments when you want a cookie but you're trying to "behave" without eating ALL the cookies.
Caramel Pretzel Bliss
The caramel coats the top and bottom of this mini bar, giving way to tiny, slightly salty bites of pretzel embedded in the cereal bar. A delightful contrast between sweet and savory. Kinda like dipping pretzel bites in warm, creamy caramel with a li'l granola, but without the mess.
My father's thoughts on the Caramel Pretzel Bites and the Coconut Dream:
He tried the Coconut Dream and said it reminded him of a "crunchy Almond Joy bar". (Dad is not a man of many words, lol.)
The bars were pretty good. Obviously, they're not the ooey-gooey, sugar-frosted affairs of the average candy bar, but they lack the bland, chem-tasting sadness that some healthy snack bars tend to have. To be blunt--they're good for you, and they don't taste like crap! In moments of conscious snacking stability, I will be giving these a shot on the next trip to the grocery store. I kinda like them both, but the Coconut Dream stole my heart. Fer funk's sake. IT'S GOT CHOCOLATE ALL OVER IT. I LOVE CHOCOLATE! :-D

My father's thoughts on the Caramel Pretzel Bites and the Coconut Dream:
- "too sweet".
- "tastes like a cracker jack".
- thought the caramel topping was maple (like a Brach's Maple Nut Goodie).
