My 1st Quarter at East-West University

I honestly wish I'd found this school years ago when I first graduated high school in 2003. I went through so much, scrambling to "find a place" so that other people wouldn't think low of me, or think I was a loser because I didn't get into a college. It wasn't that I couldn't, but, I just didn't move fast enough. I got accepted at Moraine Valley and Southern IL @ Carbondale. I punked out of both for two of the worst reasons ever--1--a teacher I admired at the time said to me "my friends call it Moron Alley", and 2--After driving all the way down there, I had a huge anxiety attack about leaving home, being alone, and being my frizzy-haired, fat self in a strange place. I ended up going to Harold Washington College from Aug 2k3 to about January 2k5.

I won't bore you with stories of college hopping, stopping, dropping, and burnouts. That's when things got messy and I blame those things on myself. I kept comparing myself to other people, just wanting to feel like more of a "normal" person in my 20s than some kind of late bloomer still without a degree. Long story short, I will be finishing my collegiate career at East-West.

It was an interesting quarter full of lectures, lectures, lectures. My professors are very passionate about what they teach, despite a few students skipping out early or just talking among themselves. I kinda don't understand why people bother to sign up if that's all they plan to do. But alas, I can't swerve in their lane of flighty behavior. I'm here to educate myself and move on to either teaching, grant writing, or boosting my career in writing. I'm proud of everyone going for their Master's, but the BA is my stop. There's talk that one will have to get their Master's, to "mean something", but I get the feeling those rumors are started by the same companies destined to dip us in debt. I'm already 24k in, lol. No thanks.

Anyway, I worked hard. I studied, I took notes, I danced on hot coals when it came to essays and quizzes. I came out with 2 Bs and an A. YAAAAY! I really like this school, and I'm glad I decided to go with it. Not every day is perfect, but I'm doing something for myself that no one can take away from me. Can't take away the great education!

Everyone in the school is friendly and helpful. Once you look over the ppl who kinda sorta need to grow up, you come to find that classes are full of diverse people just trying to learn and better themselves. You find a lot of single moms, older men, and international students. We learn from each other. I dunno exactly when I will graduate, but my tech writing teacher says I am a Junior. So, once the juggle of my transcripts stops hopping around, we will see. (That's the only thing that has me miffed at the school. No straight answer whatsoever about the dang transcripts!)

Looking forward to the rest of my days of working hard for good grades.
