When I checked my dusty business e-mail for hints of life about a week ago, I was surprised to see a message singing delicate praises of my book. The book that I pretty much thought sort of crawled into the corner to die. Frustrated by lack of....everything surrounding the book, I quietly let it go about a year or two ago. Big mistake, I know. On the path to writing and being seen, it would be in my best interest to KEEP talking about it no matter what, especially when Part Two is still in the works, waiting to be finished!
Enter David Menzies. A writer with a blog all about literary commentary and culture. He hits me up, sends me interview questions, and makes this ol' writer-in-training grin from ear to ear. Somebody out there kinda sorta maybe likes my poetry, and understands the where/why aspect. While it started out as a self-centered gripe-fest, it slowly poured out into the experience of the twenty-something. A time of learning, growth, exploration. Themes that...well...they're not going to stop once I hit 30, but appear to be a significant experience for those of us in our 20's. It's been defined as the "age of becoming".
Check out the interview here.
David wrote such a wonderful piece, and the rest of his blog is just as wonderful and rich. I think that his mind is such a wonderful place. When I got my interview questions, I sat at this desk for a long, long time making sure I answered every part to the best of my ability. He REALLY make me think about why I wrote Four Years, and why I need to continue. He sorta re-awakened my drive to complete the task. What happens next is up to me! It was an honor to be interviewed.
