Goldfish Baked Puffs--Buffalo Wing Flavor

What can I say, commercials convince me that stuff is worth a try. I go shopping, I see it, I write about it. This time we're talkin' snacks. Goldfish, the yummy and crunchy crackers of your childhood have gotten bigger and decided to puff themselves up. It's a bag half full of air and fish-shaped snack food at the bottom with  just a hint of buffalo wing goodness. If you're lookin' for a salty, saturated time, you're in the wrooong bag, partner.

The people at Pepperidge Farm know how to reel us in. They've been doing it for years with the cookies and crackers. This time, they're dabbling in the cheesy puff snack game, trying to appeal to the tweens and the teens. I uh...haven't been a teenager for a long time, but I do love a good snack. They kept playing the commercials for these things over and over, so I decided to cure my curiosity. (Side note--Unlike the commercials, they do not make your problems go away with just one bite. They just give you bad breath.)

These Pepperidge Farm Goldfish puff things taste like your average cheese puff, but without all the sodium
and finger coating-dust one would find on a Cheeto, or one of those cheese puff balls from Sam's Club. They're crunchy, yet incredibly light and airy. The buffalo wing taste is tangy with a tiny hint of vinegar and spice. To make a long story short, they're basically wispy buffalo wing-flavored snacks. If you're an extreme snacker, you'll probably need two bags. When I say the bag is 1/2 and 1/2, believe me. I basically paid three bucks for air and crunchy puffs.

I really wasn't that impressed with these things. The taste was neither good nor bad. It was kinda interesting. I'd consider these puffs to be in the category of "last resort snacks". You know--when everything else is all gone, when you've got nothing left to snack on at 3 in the morning during a character beef-up session, or that long week before you actually decide to get off your butt and go shopping. It's not really high-end snacking, but it's better than a sharp stick in the eye.

These puff snacks come in a variety of flavors, though. Sooo...maybe the others taste a little better. This flavor and package left a lot to be desire snack-wise. Considering how awesome the original crackers are, I was really expecting that rich, savory taste with these puffs. The flavor was so light that I actually licked a few to see if it was some kind of cosmic flavor joke.

Probably won't be getting these again. On the bright side--maybe you can make a nice mix with these. Toss in some mini pretzels, nuts, and other savory fixins and see what happens.
