Hey there phantom blog readers and passers-by. It's your old pal Ms. Williams with her latest product review. My buddies at BzzAgent have an awesome campaign going on for all us snacker agents out there, and you know this sugar-loving lady had to be in that grand number. So, just for my viewers, I decided to get UnReal and get the scoop on the magic of unjunked candy.
If you're not hip to the greatness that is UnReal, you are not alone. When first introduced on my Facebook timeline, I wondered to myself, "is this hippie food or what?" Something about the photos made it hard to resist. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to become a part of the campaign. Not only would I be able to eat candy, but I'd be rocking a grand alternate choice to my regular sweet chocolates. I got excited, I crossed my fingers for an invite, and the rest is history!
Here's the deal--UnReal is "unjunked". That means the wacky chemicals in your favorite candies do not exist in these products. It means the 280 calories of the Snicker's Bar takes a hit in comparison to the Chocolate Caramel Peanut Nougat Bar. All the things you can't pronounce? Gone. We're talkin' cane sugar, cocoa butter, whey, and things like milk soy. Stop the presses--all the things mommies worry about are out of the window! To be blunt, it's just the stuff you want--the chocolate, the sugar, the awesome stuff in the middle! WOOO!
With coupon in hand, I trotted on down to my local CVS to make the purchases of my choice. Instead of one, I decided to review two candies from the product lineup-- the Chocolate Caramel Peanut Nougat Bar, and the Candy Coated Chocolates With Peanuts. Funny story, these come in bags or individually wrapped. The individual packs were RIGHT at the door. Guess who was so excited and went right to the candy aisle? I didn't even see the individuals until I left the store. Can't say I'm really upset about it. I can't imagine going home with just ONE piece of each. While these snacks might not cure what ails you, the calories and low carbs alone might make you feel a little better.
My first bite of each reminded me of Adam West on Family Guy. Remember when he took a bite of a taffy? The first bite of the Peanut Caramel Bar made me feel the same way. Think of a sampler box of chocolate. The chocolate has the slightest hint of bitterness from the real cocoa, but has the familiar milk chocolate taste to satisfy those sugary cravings. The caramel was rich, a little gooey, but not as overly sweet as most caramel fillings tend to be. The peanuts were the same way--they tasted like actual roasted peanuts. I swear, I swear I tried my best not to polish off the bag too quickly. I shared some with family, and kept the rest to myself for about...oh....um...4 days! The best thing about these bars are the size. For something so small, it packs a great deal of sweet, thick, craving-satisfying goodness within each bite. So if you have one or two, it's not a waist-expanding problem.
The Candy Coated Chocolates sorta tasted like dark chocolate at first. I must admit the lack of the usual flavors of chocolate covered peanuts threw me off. They were also slightly bitter, but had a simple, slightly creamy taste that made it easy to keep palming them as I went about my day. The fact that the colors themselves come from things like beets and not "Red Dye #3" is VERY impressive. The candies are a little bit darker than the average bag of Peanut M&Ms, and has a unique taste all its own. You taste EVERYTHING from the shell to the roasted nut. It's a little sweet, a little savory.
Becoming UnJunked was an experience I would highly recommend to those of us who snack with a passion. It's for the mom who wants to stick a "little something" in the kids' lunch every now and then. For the office worker who wants something between reports without all the sugary, empty calories of the average popular treat. It's for ANYONE who wants something different than the regular snacking song and dance. If you're ready to get UnReal and UnJunked, find out if your local stores are selling. You will not be disappointed!
Disclaimer/Disclosure: The wonderful people at BzzAgent invited me to the UnReal campaign in the hopes that I would give an honest, organic opinions on the candies of my choice. When I signed up, I promised to keep things completely honest to you guys--my blog readers. No filters, no pitches--just my honesty in the blog style of my choice. Using coupons I received in the mail from BzzAgent, I went to my local store to make the purchases of my choice to review. I made sure to follow the important guidelines set for each BzzAgent--be honest, don't create a sales pitch, and have fun! ;-)
