Product Review: Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine

Oh sweet joy and bliss, this is my first product review as a BzzAgent! Still reeling from the excitement of having my first BzzKit come in the mail, you bet I fought hard with my bronchitis to hop into the shower and get friendly with Garnier Fructis and their new line of Earth-friendly bottles of shampoo and conditioner. While I expected to get the Triple Nutrition for my natural hair, BzzAgent sent me Sleek & Shine instead. interested in what it would do for my nappy roots, I decided to give it a try anyway.

When I wash my hair, I want a shampoo that will cleanse and a contidioner that will quench my dry hair's thirst. I also have problems with frizz and poof with my hairstyle of choice--the twist-out. It's hard out here for a naturalista who's short on the dough and still in college. Every penny counts and every wasted hair product experiment is a dollar wasted. As I've have great results with Garnier Fructis in the past, I expected only the best from their Sleek & Shine line. Willing to try their flip-top bottle of wonderful, I've been interested in trying since they introduce the brand on TV. What did this set of eco-friendly bottles have in store for me?

Both shampoo and conditioner smell just divine. It's kinda like a pear, apple, cherry kind of smell. Step into a warm shower with this product and you'll start havin' Calgon moments to the sound of warm Bosa Nova music. I have to admit that I am partial to the conditioner than the shampoo, because it left my hair feeling weird. Not necessarily a bad weird, but more of a confused weird. When I applied and rinsed the shampoo the first time, it made my hair feel kinda stripped and crunchy. It kinda reminded me of the feeling my hair would have after using Isoplus Spritz many moons ago. I can only guess it was the texture of my hair that had something to do with it.

The conditioner was thick and creamy, and had a rich fruity smell to it. I applied it to my hair, re-wet a few parts, and let it sit while I finished my shower. Three minutes later, my hair was in Garnier heaven. OY. The slip of this product made my hair feel moisturized and very special. Standing under the water, I was able to easily run my wide-tooth comb through my hair and distribute the product one last time. Once I stepped out of the shower, I saw my hair. It was the usual wet and curly afro, but it had shine and shimmer and moisture.

Since I don't put heat to my hair, I allowed it to air-dry a little bit before creating my signature style, a small twist out. I used my usual product with no product-crossing products at all. As a matter of fact, my dried hair felt very soft, sleek, and a little wispy like a soft plate of whipped cream. I was very satisfied with the way this product line worked with my hair type. To all the naturals out there--try it. You might just like it.

What else can I say about this amazing experience? While the shampoo wasn't my complete cup of tea, I did appreciate how it cleansed my hair, made it slightly straight, and didn't get re-tangled once I applied the product. I just wasn't fond of the slightly crunchy after-effect of my hair. Th conditioner really impressed it. I'm really a fan of Garnier conditioners for their richness and moisture. This one was no different. Finally, the best part was getting invited to try the product out. I got a full-sized set that will go to good use. I've got a great alternative to spending 30 dollars and more for hair products. It's good to know I can walk right down the street and have my best hair day.
