Yes darlings, it's that time of year again. My father and I went for our first warm-weather walk in that wonderful location known as the Dan Ryan Woods yesterday afternoon. We were ready to walk our usual bike, parking lot, and sidewalk trail when we both noticed something was new about our beloved workout spot--there was a COMPLETELY NEW TRAIL! This is exciting news for people who once had to cross a busy street to complete their workout, or go back and forth for their cardio. We no longer have to circle the parking lot to get our heart rates up.
As it turns out, there was a bike race and a BMX event which prompted the construction of the trail sometime last year. At the halfway mark, there's an incline that connects the new trail to the bike trail we'd normally walk. Let me tell you, it's a fresh, wonderful, heart jumping walk. The pavement is brand new and the scenery is breathtaking. You can easily do about two or more laps without any problem. What I love is that you're seen by a lot of people, but not necessarily so close to the street. So if you're a touch shy like me, you might feel a little "eh" about street workouts on the sidewalk. The trail is slightly obscured by trees and a hill. It's closer to the other side of the park anyway, so unless people have binoculars, you can do your thing in peace.
My father was so excited about the trail, going on and on about coming back at least every other day to get back into shape. It falls right into my plans to lose some weight before my next state ID photo, so of course it gets the green light 100%. Here's to another year of health, looking good, and not scowling on my ID card! Yesss! I'll be tacking this onto my cardio workout with the Wii every other day. If I'm blessed with the good Williams genes, I'll be able to shed quickly and keep a good tone on my body. Fingers crossed, shoes laced. ;-)
