Three/four weeks ago, I made some awesome chocolate frosting from scratch thanks to a recipe I found on the back of a container of Hershey's Cocoa. I was so proud of myself 'cause this was the second batch of frosting I made without getting it from a container. I love the taste of fresh frosting in contrast to that synthetic, waxy stuff. It seems like that taste ruins the experience of the dessert it's on. I dunno. Maybe it's the brand of frosting. Anyway, here's the recipe straight from the back of the container.
"Perfectly Chocolate" Chocolate Frosting
1 Stick (1/2 cup) butter or margarine
2/3 cup Hershey's Cocoa
3 cup powdered sugar
1/3 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
- Step 1-- Melt butter. Stir in cocoa.
- Step 2-- Alternate between adding the powdered sugar and the milk, while beating on medium speed to spread cosistency. Add more milk if needed.
- Step 3-- Stir in the vanilla.
When I made my frosting, I added a little more powdered sugar than called for, just to sweeten the frosting. I did "test sprinkles", mixed in, then tasted until I found the frosting sweet enough. It made about 2 cups worth of frosting. I only needed a little less for my cupcakes, so I put the rest in the freezer for another time. If you're familiar with that creamy, sweet taste of Hershey's, You'll love this frosting. It tastes just like somebody melted a whole mess of chocolate bars and poured them all over my cupcakes. I think it goes well with vanilla-themed treats or slathered on top of a chocolate cake. If you just want some frosting, I guess you could stick your fingers in the bowl and just eat it as is. :-P
