I've been an appreciator of Madge since my childhood years. I feel like the only person on this planet (aside from her "chosen people") who actually LOVED what she did the other night. I was so excited that I took to my personal Twitter account to rapidly sing praises as the performance commenced. I kept hearing/keep hearing the same tripe over and over from people who didn't agree--"It was boring" and "she's too old".
Okay, so....was she supposed to stand there and shuffle around a huge stage with millions of people watching in the stadium? Was she supposed to stand behind her mic and croon while a packed stadium held up cellphones like candles? Give Madge a break! Of course she can't hop around like she did at 30-something, but the diva wore toe-pinching shoes and put on a golden, shimmering affair. How is that boring? I think people wanted somebody younger. If that's the case, of course the show wasn't appealing to 'em. People whining about the lip sync also got on my nerves. How was she supposed to sing over all those cheering people? She did sing a little bit, but come on....scream singing? That's not Madge. And who wouldn't almost fall in those shoes? Nit, nit, nit, pick, pick, pick. She did what she wanted.
I marveled in her wacky mixture of Rome, Sparta, and bondage, danced along when she opened with "Vogue", and laughed when all of a sudden LMFAO and M.I.A. appeared out of nowhere. I tried to find the mute button when Nicki Minaj showed up but decided to give her annoying voice a pass for being with Madonna (couldn't find the remote...-__-). When Miss CeeLo came out in his glittery church robe to sing "Like A Prayer", I felt complete as a fan. This was far from a boring show. If you want more, more, more, stick with a younger artist. Yesterday's show was about quality. At least she didn't just make it all Madonna, all the time. The only part of the show I thought was okay-ish was the "Music" scene. It wasn't bad, but I wasn't that impressed. It was kinda "ehhhh". For the most part, the stage elements impressed me a lot more. (I'm a sucker for colors, graphics, cubes....)
As for the whole M.I.A. thing, I missed it. I guess that was when I turned my back for a second to Tweet or whatever. What's so taboo about flippin' the bird, anyway? It's not a boob, nobody's junk came floppin' out. It's one little sad finger--allegedly. It's all over now and all that's left is the wave of commentary over what was. I wonder who's going to be on the chopping block next year? Anyway, video's below. I still get goosebumps hearing that intro....
