I had a cool joke about YouTube being like a Pokemon that evolved after you leveled it up enough or went to that tower/store/thing/place and bought a stone to do a quick evolve. But I'm wobbly, sleepy, and can't remember the details. Minus fifty points for Ms. Williams!
So, YouTube went and changed itself again. I thought nothing of it days before when DeStorm and Cory Williams brought it up in Twitter posts. I'm thinking "okay, they're probably just going to move stuff. Didn't they just change it like 6 months ago?" Well darlings, they changed it a-freakin-gain. I won't go into nerd girl rage mode about it, but I did huff a bit like the time I couldn't beat a certain sorceress in Final Fantasy 8. A lot of people sing praises but I can't really say I like the newness. The newness is centered, gray, smooshed together, and for some reason has integrated my Google+ and Facebook accounts so I can see the same videos I just saw on those sites back on the 'Tube.
I grumbled as I fumbled with the new layout, wondering why in the heck YouTube had to mess with a perfectly fine thing. My subscriptions were in one section, my recs were in another, and the "all activity" section was in a world all its own. As of today, this is what the 'Tube currently looks like:
"Sreamline"? Eh.
I've heard people saying it's "streamline" and "innovative". I disagree. It reminds me of my own blog's current cluttered look. Everything is in one place, close together and centered. It's like some kind of weird video and links orgy with a gray template. I've been doing a lot more clicking trying to find out where stuff is. Not to mention, after I watch a video, I can no longer click an "X" on the front page on top of the video preview to make it go away. It's just....there. There's also so much stuff on the page that I hardly care about. A majority of those items were at the bottom of the page in sections, or on the side. As I huffed and puffed some more, I scrolled down and noticed csandreas posted an ever so lovely, eloquent video on the changes.
Then, I noticed there were a ton of videos claiming to show you how to get things back as they were in the related videos section. You can always count on the 'Tube community to come up with a way to fix something when it's "broken". ;-) I chose this one, which failed miserably. Frustrated, I ventured off to Facebook to satisfy my Sims Social craving of the day. That's when I noticed csandreas posted the following video on FaceBook:
UNNNFH! PROBLEM SOLVED! No more frustration. If that stops working, I'm pretty sure Chrome and FireFox users will quickly find a way to fix it via an add-on or plug in. In this day and age, you don't necessarily have to settle for wacky changes popular sites decide to make. Silly YouTube, always touching things.
