Skinny Cow Ice Cream: Minis!

Lowfat food in general gets that stigma of the after-taste and the label of tasting like crap. It seems as if the sacrifice breaks down to either too many calories, sugar, and fat to satisfy taste, or flat out taste being sacrificed to stop the expansion of the waist. In my ongoing battle of eating right and snacking sensibly, I can easily name off some "goodies" that have tasted like flat out crapola. I went back to Wal-Mart and finally had some Skinny Cow Ice cream.

I bought four flavors of their ice cream. Basically, the only ones available. I was hoping to keep these goodies to myself but the lucrative price of $1.25, the sexy looking containers, and the cuteness had everyone in my house wanting one. Nothing is safe and rightly so. THIS ICE CREAM ROCKS!

The portions are for one serving. When I say mini, I MEAN mini. These are about 5 ounces of ice cream. Just enough for a snack, just enough for about a scoop in regular terms. It's all portioned out for you and there's no way to overeat. (Unless you eat like five of these by yourself. Tsk tsk.) My flavors of choice were Strawberry Cheesecake, Cookies 'N' Cream, Dulce de Leche, and Caramel Cone. Since I was testing, I only bought four. I regret not getting eight or more because eeeeveryone in the house wanted one because they were sooo cute and looked soo good. Thanks to my last dance with Skinny Cow, everyone is hip to the flavor.

On the first night home, I had the Strawberry Cheesecake. How can I put this? It sucked! The cheesecake part left an after-taste. The strawberry part tasted bland. I realize you can only do so much with lowfat, but this really had that low fat taste. The next night, I had the Cookies 'n' Cream. I had to Tweet about this one. It tastes like an Oreo McFlurry without all the thickness. It was light, fluffy, and chock full of cookies. I should have bought about six ice cream cups of this flavor. I don't care who was watching my big butt stock 'em. THEY WERE GOOD! I gave the Caramel Cone cup to my dad's girlfriend. I took a taste before she ate it. From what I can tell, it's an okay kind of Pralines 'n' Cream sort of knock-off.

Finally, the Dulce de Leche. I tasted more leche than dulce. It tasted like somebody mixed hazelnut coffee creamer with butter pecan ice cream and then put it in the freezer. It wasn't my cup of tea because it was a bit too frothy and milky with too much caramel. Once it got into my mouth, it tasted like a melted mess. I'm pretty sure I won't be getting that flavor again.

Overall, Skinny Cow's ice cream treats were a lovely little dessert for someone trying to watch the pounds. I'm one of those spoiled and crazy fat people who refuses to give up taste as a factor of diet. Sometimes a girl wants to have a little cool and creamy outside of the usual fruit and grain song 'n' dance. It's good to know that Skinny Cow is looking out for us dieters with something for everyone. My suggestion is that you stock up on them while you can. You'll end up being forced to share with friends and family whether you like it or not. Once you explain how much and they see how cute it is, you're doomed. ;-)
