Kinky-Curly, the Results (Part 1)

In the world of the natural woman, the one hang-up is becoming a frustrated product junkie. If you go on YouTube, hair forums, and even blogs, you will see plenty of women telling you about sixty different things. It's really up to you to realize what works for your hair and what does not. As my grandmother would always say, "go with your gut."

When I lopped my hair off after removing my braids many moons ago, I would have laughed at the idea of somebody telling me I'd become a product junkie. I'm pretty simple, pretty frugal. Since I didn't reach out 100% to fellow naturalistas, I had to wade the waters of product frustration and hair frustration myself. Is the battle of frustration over? Far from it. Allow me to introduce you to every hair product I currently own. (which also includes some kitchen-type products and water mix of conditioner and olive oil.)
IC Aloe Vera Gel, Shea Moisture Curling Cream, Trader Joe's Nourish Condit, Herbal Essences Dry Hair Shampoo, Eco Styler Max Hold Gel, Peppermint Castille Soap, Bio-Ionic Claryfying shampoo, Virgin Coconut Oil, Kinky-Curly Custard, Organic Root Stimulator Lock and Twist Gel, and a spray bottle mix all my own.

Conditioners, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, White Shea Butter, Kinky-Curly Gloss Pomade.

Keep in mind that I've left out the Shealoe mix, but I think you get the picture. I've been on a long and hard journey of hair products and regimens to find out what really works for me. I've tried things like Mixed Chicks and Carol's Daughter, only to wonder why I just took out my credit card. I've tried to save a buck by getting the suggested drug store stuff only to wonder why in the world I'd be willing to put bad stuff in my hair. In other words, I have made it very complicated because I fell for the hype. Let me put it this way--what little dollars I have at this moment need to be spent on things I NEED, and not things that are going to cost too much either in taxes or shipping and handling. Besides, I need my closet space for my purses and stuff--not econo-sized bottles of crap I can't decide works for me or not.

I've come to find that some of these things that work for other people with my hair type (which is 4b/4c) does not necessarily work for me. It's annoying to have to find that out in the shower or afterward, but it's all a part of the process of learning what is good and what is bad for my hair. This is why I decided to give Kinky-Curly a second chance. Despite the fact that it gave me one of those weird 90s Jherri Curl things, I noticed that another naturalista on YouTube used it for her twist out instead of just raking it through. I sat there for a minute thinking to myself "do I want to do this again?" Because I tried Kinky-Curly before and was on the fence. I saw how she did her hair and knew mine probably wouldn't come out quite like it, but the results might not be so bad. So, I went ahead and ordered some. When this past weekend came, I finally had a chance to test this method out. Below is my hair all twisted up. I have yet to take it down. That's gonna be part 2. :-) (Pardon the er...mug-ness. I'm naturally hairy and take the worst photos period! O_o Also, you know...the fat lady thing and side angles....^^;)
