Skinny Cow--The Ultimate Low-Fat Food

This is a product review close to my heart, my wallet, and my stomach. In the battle of finding so-called "diet food" with all the goodness and none of the "ick" factor, I came across these delightful treats at my local Wal-Mart by chance. I gave them a hard, angry look wondering if they'd taste like airy crap or fruity garbage with a bland and sugar after-taste. Was it going to be a bust at the price of 3 dollars and some change? I was sorely mistaken and prayed to the frozen treat Goddesses to forgive me for my foolish ways.

The treats come in a variety of flavors and kinds. I wrapped my mitts around the Strawberry Shortcake Sandwiches. I figured it would be a safe bet to go with something vanilla and berry-flavored. I couldn't live with my chocolate-loving self for purchasing a flop. The first bite was heaven, the second through fifth were absolute pleasure. At 140 calories, I thought I was losing my mind! It has the taste and the weight of a frozen treat with way more sugar and calories. I had to pace myself. They come six in a pack and it took me about a week to polish them all off. They were my little secret because everyone else in the house thought they were that "real diet food"--the stuff us fatties eat that the rest of the world can't seem to handle because it's "special". Oh, these are special all right. If everyone wants to avoid them.....*naughty grin*

The sweetest thing about these treats have to be the yummy vanilla cookie sandwich part. Sweet enough to taste like a giant soft vanilla cookie, but not so much to a point where it overpowers the ice cream center. They're very airy, light, and chewy. The swirled ice cream itself is a skim-milk tasting dream. The vanilla is very soft and creamy like the kind from your childhood. It's sweet, but not very sticky like regular ice cream. The pink strawberry swirl part has an amazing berry-licious flavor. It reminds me of the sweet strawberry ice cream from Old Country Buffet back in the early 90s. If you're down with this swirl, you'll be licking your lips and wanting a second sandwich.

They are a great alternative to the regular frozen treats if you're looking for a somewhat healthier alternative. The sandwiches come in Chocolate Peanut Butter, Cookies 'n Cream, Mint, Vanilla, and Combo Vanilla/Chocolate. Buy them while they're hot! Those of us in the know will get them from you in the blink of an eye!
