For all the girly girls out there, I'm sure Ulta is one of your one-stop shops. For this not-so-girly woman, it's a sideline staple for last-minute gifts and the occasional trip to get makeup to last for a little while. While mistakenly messing up their 2-for deal last December, I happened to come across a 3-in-1 bodywash for sale. It's their home brand, a scent called berrylicious.
Throwing all caution to the wind and ignoring a majority of the comments on scent, texture, etc., I gave this bodywash a chance. At the sales price of about ten dollars, I figured I had nothing to lose. Since Ulta seems to be about as well-known as MAC or Liz Arden, what would be the harm? Well, it all started in the shower and went on from there. First and foremost, I suggest opening this bottle before you get into the shower. It took me about five minutes, bent over and grumbling with wet hands to get it open. I'm usually pretty good with the pump products. A few twists, a snap sound, and I'm ready to lather. I don't know if I opened it wrong, if I had a defective pump top, or if the shower gods were just against me that day. At one point, the little pump top actually came clean off. Once I got it working, I got a few little squirts. I had to pump harder to get anything good. Frustrated, I was ready to give this 3-in-1 a try and get out of the shower.
Before using it in the shower, I previously unscrewed the cap to get a whiff of my new purchase. It reminded me of my childhood, actually. I'm not sure if Walgreen's and the Jewel-Osco here in Chicago still carry those generic bath creams, but the berrylicious seriously reminded me of the strawberry brand these stores would carry. They didn't necessarily stink, but they weren't exactly a scent to write home about. Smelling this bodywash pretty much made me feel the same way. It had a generic strawberry scent to it. You know, the kind that sort of lingers in your nostrils for a minute? Yeah, that one.
The consistency of this bodywash was a little odd as well. Not so much as thick as a smoothie, but a bit on the watery and milky side like an unhealthy milkshake. I did not think it would lather very well. Lo and behold, it did not. As a matter of fact, it had a pretty sad lather for such a semi-pricey bodywash. I've had better results with my Tranquil Moisturizing Body Wash and Oil of Olay (Purple Bottle). Both cost way less and have done way more for my skin. Noticing the price has gone up from 10 dollars to 14, perhaps I've picked the wrong scent. It seems as if the other ones are a lot more popular and easier to come by. Basically, this Ulta brand would probably be better as a hand wash rather than the 3-in-1 miracle they're claiming it to be. The smell is dismal, the consistency lacks body, and my skin...well...nothing really changed. Since I opened it, I can't get a refund. I'm not really sure what else to do with it but use it on weekends when I'm not going anywhere! This might be the perfect bodywash for someone who is a little bit younger. Perhaps a young lady in her late tweens, or one in her early teens. It's a youthful scent that I really just can't get with.
